1年越しの約束が、ついに叶った日。* 🇩🇪🤝

初めてドイツからお越しのポールさんを
フライフィッシングにご案内しました。

1年以上前から連絡をくれていた彼。
この日が実現して、僕自身も本当に嬉しかった。

天候も最高。コンディションも最高。
ポールさんはアマゴ、イワナを次々とキャッチ👏

…でもドラマは夕方に起きた。

日没間近、ライズが止まらない。
そして来た、明らかに違う当たり。
35cmクラスのイワナ。

激しい突っ込みをかわし、足元まで寄せた。
…のに、僕のミスで痛恨のバラし。

落胆するポールさんの顔を、見れなかった。

でも次のチャンスを逃すことなく、またヒット。
今度は尺超えのアマゴ。

「逃がした魚は大きい」
まさにその通り。
激流へ走られ、ラインブレイク。

魚たちに言われた気がした。
*「腕磨いて、出直してこい」*って。

でもそれ以上に嬉しかったのは、
ドイツに素敵な友人ができたこと。
同じ時間を、同じ景色を共有できたこと。

ありがとう、ポール。また来てね。

I had the pleasure of guiding Paul, visiting all the way from Germany,
on his first fly fishing experience.

He’d been reaching out to me for over a year.
Making this day happen made me genuinely happy too.

Perfect weather. Perfect conditions.
Paul landed amago and iwana one after another 👏

…but the real drama happened at dusk.

Right before sunset, the rises wouldn’t stop.
Then came a hit that felt different.
A 35cm-class iwana.

We dodged its hard runs and brought it all the way to our feet.
…only for me to blow it with a mistake. Heartbreaking release.

I couldn’t bring myself to look at Paul’s disappointed face.

But he didn’t miss the next chance. Another hit.
This time, an amago over 30cm.

“Lost fish are always the biggest.”
Exactly that.
It ran into the fast current and cut the line.

It felt like the fish were telling us:
*“Go sharpen your skills and come back.”*

But more than anything, I was grateful for
making a great friend in Germany,
and for sharing the same time and the same view.
