アメリカから来た15歳の釣り少年、コナーとの素敵な時間がありました。家族で飛騨高山を訪れる中、私にガイドを頼んでくれました。彼は年齢を感じさせないほどの釣りの経験者で、フライ、ルアー、餌釣りと、何でもこなせる腕前です。

山の川でイワナを見事にキャッチする姿には驚かされました。そして、街を流れる川で彼が披露した鯉の釣り技術は圧巻！エサを撒いて軽い仕掛けで大物をお見事に引き上げたのです。その姿に感動しました。

次は観光ではなく、ぜひ釣りを目的に来てほしいと思います。それだけの価値がありますから。さらに技術を磨いたコナーとの再会が今から待遠しいです!

I spent a special day in Japan’s nature.

I had a wonderful time with Connor, a 15-year-old fishing boy from America. While visiting Hida Takayama with his family, they asked me to be their guide. He is such an experienced angler that you’d never guess his age, capable of handling fly fishing, lure fishing, and bait fishing—all with great skill.

I was amazed to see him skillfully catch an iwana in the mountain stream. And his impressive carp fishing technique in the river flowing through the town was spectacular! He scattered bait and, using a light rig, skillfully landed a big fish. I was truly moved by the sight.

Next time, I hope he will come not for sightseeing, but with the specific goal of fishing. It’s worth it. I am already looking forward to reuniting with Connor, who will surely have honed his skills even further!
